C2E2 – Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo 2014

I went to C2E2 (Chicago Comic & Entertainment) this year in Chicago, and it was a blast.  Way more fun than I expected.  Here are a few highlights from a great weekend.

Doctor Who – TARDIS Animation in After Effects

We’re going to see the Doctor Who: 50th Anniversary Special in theaters tonight.  So why not celebrate with a few Doctor Who TARDIS graphics?  I created the initial 3D Model using Blender and brought it into Element 3D to create the scenes.  It’s a great plug-in to use with After Effects.  I got creative and tried out a few different animations using my TARDIS model.   This project took over 15 hours to complete.  A lot of time was spent modeling in Blender.  Below is a compilation of some of the renders.  After using Element 3D for about a year and a half, I’ve been very impressing with what it can do.  Most of the renders on average took about 15 mintues.

Here are a few images within Blender of the TARDIS in progress:

TARDIS Refrigerator Magnet

This TARDIS magnet was made from Fusion Beads and probably took about an hour.  It was a fun and quick little project.  You’ll need an iron and ironing board.  Fusion Beads can be found at any craft store.

TARDIS Ceramic Plate

We went to Alpaca Art in Kenosha to paint ceramic plates.  I decided to try out a TARDIS with a time vortex surrounding it.  I liked how it turned out, for the most part.  This project took about 4 hours.  I used a lot of the paint writers for the really precise areas.  Enjoy!

10th Doctor Who – Made with Scuply Clay

I made 10th Doctor from the BBC’s Doctor Who out of Sculpey Clay.  It was a fun little project that took about five hours to complete.  After baking the clay, I also added David Tennant’s trademark trench coat to finish the ensemble.   The coat was made from a little felt and hot glue.  The finished piece stands about 6 inches tall.  Click here to watch a time-lapse of me working on it.
